You Don’t Feel Like Doing It… Tough Tea Bags!

That’s what my Grandma use to say to me when I would wine about having to do my chores. I don’t even know what tough teabags actually means, but it always made sense.

There are plenty of things in life we don’t want to do, but are required to finish. The best example I can think of right now is here in the US we have to file our taxes by April 15th. Most people don’t really want to file, but the consequences are pretty severe if we decide to skip it this, or any year.

There are plenty of other things we would like to take a pass on in life… but know it must be done. Like if you decide not to go to work for a week without telling anyone. That might end up with being out of a job.

In my case I made a decision to write 2 blog posts a day for a couple of weeks. I need to get a collection of posts ready to go just in case I get the flu. This is part of my plan I wrote about in How Does A Blog Survive The Flu. I made a commitment to myself to get this done, and started this week.

However today I put off writing the 2 posts. My wife got back early from a 4 day business trip, and I wanted to hang out with her. And that’s what I did for most of the day. We just goofed off, and had some fun.

So, I sat down to write tonight, but didn’t really know what to write about. After a while I started to talk myself out of completing my tasks for the day. After all… I had been working hard this week. My wife just got home & I deserved a break.

But…

I kept hearing my Grandma saying: “You don’t feel like doing it… tough tea bags!”

So, I made myself sit back down and finish off the last item on my To-Do list. At first it was hard… my subconscious kept screaming for me to stop. It couldn’t think of anything to write. You can’t be creative if you force yourself to write. What are you trying to prove? Just push this off till tomorrow, when you’re fresh.

After awhile my subconscious calmed down, and the writing go easier. And before I knew it… I was finished. It was cool to scratch the last item off the To-Do list.

Sometimes you just got to put your head down, and drive on…
