Low Tech Organzining Tool

How many task do you do to keep your blog running? 6? 9? 17?

Not sure?

I was in the not sure category. Many days I would do most of the tasks or activities to drive traffic or add links. Some days I would all of them… then other days I would get almost nothing done.

It became clear to me that I was inconsistent at best running this blog. It was time to get better organized… or organized in the first place.

Trying different organizing tools available didn’t help. I tried a day planner, several online application and even a to do list. But, I could not find one that worked… well actually one that I would work on a consistent basis.

Then one day while I was cleaning up around my desk I found an 3X5 index card holder. I suddenly remembered that I this was how I used this as a follow up system while in sales. It worked great even though it is a very low tech solution.

So, I figured it would probably work just as good for running this blog. The video shows the setup and how it works. It’s much easier to show than to try to write about it.

Here’s the video…

  1. This tip is very low tech, but I think this is not a waste of time, because you can remember doing your task every time you see your task box when you sit in front of your computer.
Very nice tip. I will definitely try to follow as what you’ve shown on this video.
    Thanks.

  2. How Marvelous!

You know what I need now Keith? I need to know exactly WHAT all those little tasks might be…

I have some of them (and i’m putting together a tool on my desk right now to help), I just need to know what I don’t know.

The video is terrific. Can you share with us how you created it?

You might want to slow down just a teensy bit in your delivery. I think it would make your demonstrations more effective.

Thanks for sharing, it’s a great idea. I’m kind of working on something a little simpler and a little more ‘graphic’ maybe, for myself. I noticed I need to be better organized with my blog tasks too.

If I get it worked out, I might make a video for you (this isn’t a good topic for MY blog, it would work better for yours!) and I’ll use the good lessons from your video!

I’m looking forward to your next production,

  3. LOL Very cool Keith. A lot of people would be very surprised to learn just how many things can still be done in a low tech manner…and BETTER. :-)

  4. I’ve used this type of system in the past with success. That was before I had surgery a few years ago to join me to my computer at the hip, and I woke up mumbling something about a spreadsheet and couldn’t remember how to use a pen or pencil — or even a calculator.

All kidding aside, my wife says that my handwriting isn’t what it used to be, not because of my age, I’m only 56, but because of disuse.

  5. @ Larry I know what you mean about handwriting. Mine is not the best, and I have to concentrate on what I’m writing. There has been more than once I couldn’t read my writing a few days later.

@ Dennis I’d have to say that this is one Low tech tool that is tough to give up. It sure works for me.

@ Pam if you want to make a video I’d be happy to post it next week… I’m looking for guest posters while I’m on vacation.

@ Eric It’s funny how much you get done when those cards are staring at you all day…

  6. Yea the handwriting thing is what would stop me, mine is atrocious. I also tend to cramp up pretty easily while writing…probably from such lack of use lol.
