Breast Cancer Sucks!

Avon Breast Cancer Crusade

My wife called me yesterday, and I could tell instantly she was upset. Her doctor’s office called & said they didn’t like the levels of her latest blood tests. So, they are scheduling a series of tests.

Back in August 2005 my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer. She finished her treatments in May of 2006 & given the all clear by the doctors. Becky went through 2 surgeries, 2 rounds of chemo & a round of radiation. Through it all I was amazed at how tough she was.

However she said the hardest part of the whole ordeal was not the surgery, chemo or radiation… it was the waiting. Waiting to get scheduled for tests, waiting for the test results, waiting for the doctors’ appointments to discuss test results, waiting to take treatments, waiting to see if the treatments worked…

I couldn’t agree more. It can be agonizing sitting around waiting… not being able to do anything.

We might not have been able to do anything about Becky’s cancer… but we were able to redirect that energy towards other things.

For instance we did race for the cure. It was such an emotional high watching Becky cross the finish line 12 weeks out of surgery. I still tear up thinking about that moment. I’d asked my customers to support Becky’s race for the cure. We were overwhelmed with letters of support, donations & prayers. It was uplifting.

So here we are in 2008…

And we are being pulled right back into the waiting game. It’s both scary & frustrating, but we have to let the process run its course.

Once again I might not be able to do anything about the tests… but I can redirect that energy towards other things.

And here’s the first one…

Michel & Sylvie Fortin are putting on a teleseminar with many of the top names in marketing. People like Willie Crawford, Armand Morin , Donna Fox, Clayton Makepeace, Fran Kern, Jim Edwards, Joel Comm, John Carlton, Mike Filsaime & and many others.

This event will only cost a donation to the Avon Foundation’s Breast Cancer Crusade. You get to pick the amount to donate it’s your choice. The donations can only be made directly to Avon Foundation’s Breast Cancer Crusade. Sylvie will not be taking any donations from her website.

All you have to get on the teleseminar is go to http://www.marketerspledge.org give them your name, email & tell Sylvie your pledge amount. That’s it.

They only need your name & email so they can tell you the day & time of the event.

So, head on over there now & do your part to help fight breast cancer.

P.S. I’d also like to ask for some help. Becky’s going to go through a series of tests the next couple of weeks. Please pray we hear good news from these tests.

[Edit - I wrote this post Friday a few hours after Becky called with the news. I sat on it over the weekend not sure if I was going to publish it. I didn't know if I wanted to put this out there for all to read.

I realized today that writing this Friday had helped me cope with the news. So, in a way it was cathartic. Now it's time to be proactive. By asking for help I hope we can help get closer to ending this dreadful disease.]

  1. You made the right choice of publishing this post. Yes, writing about it is a sort of therapy, a release, but more so, talking about your wife’s battle against breast cancer will not only increase awareness about this dreaded sickness but also inspire your readers (me included) about her strength and courage. I will be praying for your wife Becky.

  2. Carey,

Thanks for the prayers. You’re right about increasing awareness, and ultimately it was the reason I did publish this post. It’s about keeping this cause going as much as possible.

  3. Praying for you and Becky right now. May He bring you both through this fire without even the smallest scent of smoke on you. Have faith!

  4. I’m praying that you guys receive good news. You’re right – cancer sucks… Big Time. I truly hope and pray your wife doesn’t have it. Has your wife considered juicing?

  5. Sometimes tests show the possibility of something that doesn’t turn out to be there after all – AFTER of course you’ve gone through all the agony of more tests and sleepless nights. Hoping and praying there’s nothing wrong at all…

  6. You and your wife will be in my prayers. I have known way too many women in my life who have had to fight this dreaded bug “C”, but that’s just what they did, as it sounds the both of you will.
    Sending positive thoughts your way,
    Janet

  7. Keith – My prayers are with you and Becky.

  8. Two of my cousins have battled this disease in the last couple of years. It sounds like you guys are fighters and will win this battle. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your wife Becky.

  9. Just a quick update. I’m sitting in the waiting room right now… Of course waiting. (Hence the name) This is the 1st of 3 tests. I want to thank everyone who has commented.

Thank you for your prayers, good thoughts & encouragement. We all know how powerful prayer can be. Becky has read all the comments & it’s uplifted her spirits.

@Carol – Thanks we are looking forward to getting through it smoke free.

@Laura – Yes, we started juicing this year. 1st time for Becky & I’m back to it after a couple years off.

@Carole – Yep, the agony of waiting for results is the toughest. Last night was my 1st sleepless night.

@Janet – Becky is definitely a fighter. It’s unfortunate so many of us know people who have fought the fight. I look forward to a day hardly anyone knows a cancer survivor.

@Ryan – Thanks my friend. Got your email & Becky wants to get the books you recommended.

@Marty – Sorry to hear about your cousins. I hope everything went good for them. Thanks for your thoughts & prayers.

  10. Keith,

Sorry to hear your news, my prayers are with and your wife.

  11. My prayers are with you and Becky , Keith. I hope all goes well.
    Dorothea Carney
